The head of the Ministry of Economy answered questions from journalists about the promising areas of the department’s work in the near and medium term.

“First is the current five-year plan. Goals, objectives and priorities are settles. The key is the growth of household incomes. In this regard, we are moving within the given parameters. In addition, the fulfillment of quality indicators – housing provision, construction of social infrastructure facilities, and so on.

Second, we are starting a new cycle of long-term forecasting. Today on the agenda is work on the National Sustainable Development Strategy for the period until 2040. We have already prepared its Concept. In the near future we will discuss its main directions and parameters with the general public. Based on this document, a socio-economic development program for the next five years will be developed,” said Yuri Chebotar.

According to the Minister of Economy, at the moment the key task is investment in the development of the real sector, increasing its competitiveness, and outlined several areas of this work.

“The first is the implementation of the initiative of the Head of State “One district, one project.” This year we already have about two hundred such projects. Some regions have two or three such projects to implement. For these purposes, appropriate resources from the Development Bank and partner banks have been provided, and comfortable financing conditions have been determined. Resources have also been allocated for the construction of social facilities, road infrastructure, and so on.

The second is support and measures to stimulate investment. We expect that the updated Law “On Investments” will be adopted in the near future - the document has already been approved by deputies and senators.

Third is the development of regions. This includes balanced economic growth of regions, outstripping the development of “80 thousand plus” cities and lagging territories,” summed up Yuri Chebotar.
