Foreign Direct Investment

 In 2016-9 foreign investors invested 6,25 bln USD of gross foreign investment in the real sector the economy of  Belarus, including 5,1 bln USD of foreign direct investment (FDI).


By the results of 2016-9 the TOP-10 donor countries of FDI in the Republic of Belarus consisted of  Russia – 48,4%, the UK – 21,6%, Cyprus – 8,5%, Poland – 3,2%, Lithuania – 2,9%, Ukraine – 2,7%, Austria – 2,6%, the Netherlands – 1,4%,Germany – 1,3%, China – 1,3%, others – 6,1%.

 

The key sectors for FDI (by the results of 2016-9): trade (37,4%), transport (36%) and processing industry (14,6%).

 

In 2016-9 foreign direct investment on a net basis (excluding debt to direct investor for goods, works and services) to the economy of the Republic of Belarus amounted to 1,1 bln USD.

 

 

The major FDI on a net basis investing countries in 2016-9 include:

- Russia (321,1 mln USD, 35,7% of the total FDI on a net basis, excluding banking sector and property sale); - Cyprus (202,6 mln USD, 22,5%); - Lithuania (77,2 mln USD, 8,6%); - the Netherlands (53,3 mln USD, 5,9%); -China (33,5 mln USD, 3,7%); - Estonia (22,3 mln USD, 2,5%); - Austria (22,3 mln USD, 2,5%); - Germany (16,9 mln USD, 1,9%);- Switzerland (14,6 mln USD, 1,6%); - the UK (13,5 mln USD, 1,5%).

As of January 1, 2016 there are 6787 registered companies with foreign capital in the Republic of Belarus, including 3759 of JV, 3007 of FE and 21 others. The total contribution of foreign investors in the authorized capital of enterprises with foreign capital amounted to 2448,4 mln USD (1149,4 mln USD in joint ventures, 1296,9 mln USD in foreign enterprises and 2,1 mln USD in others). Compared with the previous year, the total number of enterprises decreased by 312 (4052 of JV, 3018 of FE and 29 others (as of 01.01.2015)).
